New APRSLink Commands "SP" and "SMS"
Gone are the days of having to use:
W <to_address> W1 <subject> W2 <some text> W3 <more text> /EX
Now, you can use the new SP command which greatly simplifies sending Winlink messages using APRS. Here's the new command syntax:
SP <to_address, callsign, or alias> <subject>
Then, anything you send to WLNK-1 other than /EX or the (P)layback command makes up the body of your message. If you mess up and need to start over, just issue a new SP command. Here's an example (all sent to WLNK-1):
SP sam@iam.com Test Message Some text for the body of the message. Some more text for the message. /EX
The above will result in the below message being sent to sam@iam.com:
Some text for the body of the message. Some more text for the message. +++ Below automatically added by APRSLink +++ Last reported position: 3859.88N 10438.51W Grid: DM78QX. When replying use plain *** *** text and keep the message as short as possible. *** *********************************************************
You can also send a single line message to any Winlink user or internet email address by using the new SMS command. Here's some examples:
SMS sam@iam.com Test Message
or
SMS K0QED Another test message
or, if you have an APRSLink alias set up for a long email address you can use the alias name:
SMS alias_name A test message using an alias
